E-Bike & Scooter Accessories Gift Guide: 8 Upgrades Riders Want
Share
E-bike and scooter riders need different gear from regular cyclists. Their rides weigh more, go faster and cost more, so thieves target them. Many of them commute every day, in all weather. The best gifts for them cover four areas: security, visibility, battery care and comfort.
Some e-bike accessories only fit certain bikes. We flag those below, along with what you need to check before you order.
Security
Geevon 135dB wireless alarm (from $42.26)
The Geevon is the loudest alarm in our range. When someone tampers with the bike, it sounds a 135dB siren. Your rider can set the sensitivity and volume to three levels each, and control it with a remote from up to 132ft away. The remote also has a search button for finding the bike in a busy lot.
The unit measures 2.6 × 1.6 × 0.9 in, small enough to hide under a saddle or inside a basket. It sticks or straps on without tools and fits e-bikes, e-scooters and motorcycles. Pick the 2-unit option for a couple who both ride.
NAKTO foldable lock ($89.99)
This official NAKTO accessory uses steel links that fold into a compact block for carrying. A folding lock opens wider than a U-lock, so your rider can lock the frame to a thick post or a tree. It comes in green, red and black, and it works on any bike, not only NAKTO models.
Want a cheaper option? Our e-bike lock comparison covers U-locks and cable locks too.
Lights
TSNature 36V/48V e-bike light kit ($47.41)
This kit runs off the e-bike's own battery, so your rider never has to charge it. It includes a 400-lumen headlight with a built-in horn, a rear light with left and right turn signals and a brake light, and a handlebar switch that controls everything.
Check before you buy: the bike needs a 36V or 48V system with a light port that supplies more than 5W, and a white XH2.54 connector. Many mid-drive motors only supply 6V or 12V for lights, and the kit won't work on those. If you aren't sure, ask the rider to check their bike's manual, or pick the battery-powered set below.
2400-lumen dual headlight set ($67.51)
Fast e-bikes need more light than a basic commuter lamp gives. This set pairs two 1,200-lumen headlights with an 8,800mAh battery pack. The pack runs them for about 3 hours on high or up to 24 hours on low. A USB tail light comes in the box.
The lights mount on handlebars or a helmet without tools, and they work on scooters too. Because they carry their own battery, they fit any bike.
Battery care
EUNORAU thermal battery cover ($69)
Lithium batteries lose range in the cold, and winter riders notice it on the first frosty morning. This neoprene sleeve wraps around the battery with wide hook-and-loop straps. It holds warmth in during rides and protects the pack in a cold garage.
Check before you buy: it fits batteries mounted on the down tube, the tube that runs from the handlebars down to the pedals. It won't fit seat-tube or rear-rack batteries, and it doesn't fit the EUNORAU E-FAT-STEP, E-FAT-MN, FLASH, NEW-TRIKE or JUMBO. For more cold-weather advice, read how to winterize your e-bike battery.
Comfort and safety
EUNORAU C8 wide comfort saddle ($49)
E-bike riders often sit upright for long stretches, and a stock saddle starts to hurt after half an hour. The C8 measures 11.9" wide, sits on elastomer springs and has a relief channel down the middle to ease pressure. The waterproof cover handles rain.
It fits standard seat posts. Skip it for the EUNORAU E-FAT-MN and E-FAT-STEP folding bikes, where a wider saddle can block the fold. For a narrower seat, see the EUNORAU C7.
Lennon helmet with LED rear light (from $59.78)
A helmet light sits higher than a bike light, so drivers spot it sooner. The Lennon has a built-in 5-LED rear light with three modes, 15 vents and a removable visor. A dial at the back adjusts the fit for heads from 54 to 61 cm, which covers most adults, so you can buy it without knowing the exact size.
It comes in five matte colors and weighs about 300g. It suits scooter riders as well as cyclists.
Cargo
MOSISO 12L waterproof rack bag (from $37.43)
Many e-bikes ship with a rear rack, and a trunk bag puts it to work. The MOSISO holds 12L in the main compartment and has six side pockets for a phone, wallet and charger. Four Velcro straps hold it on the rack, and a shoulder strap turns it into a carry bag when your rider parks.
It comes in 15 colors and has a reflective strip for night riding.
Three things to check before you buy
- Battery position. Battery covers and some bags depend on where the battery sits. Look at the bike, or ask the rider which model they own.
- System voltage. Kits that run off the bike's battery, like the TSNature lights, need a matching voltage. Battery-powered lights and helmet lights avoid the question.
- Rack. Rack bags need a rear rack. If the bike doesn't have one, a saddle bag or handlebar bag works instead.
Not sure? Send us the rider's bike model through the chat on our site, and we'll tell you which items fit. Check the shipping time on each product page so the gift arrives before the holidays.
